I bought a single-through-double-pole-center-off toggle switch. The two active settings send power to a set of relays in the truck bed. Since the actuators have built-in limit switches, I wanted some obvious indication whether the circuit was on.
I decided to add an LED indicator. I wanted two colors since the actuators could be going up or going down. I chose a bi-color LED. This circuit has a customized H-bridge that switches the direction of the current through the LED. The switch powers the LED using the two diodes. This will ensure the LED is off when the switch is in the center.
The relays are chained together so that they can switch the current directions for the actuators. I made sure that even if both relays are on, there will not be a short circuit. There is a design possibility that uses only one relay, but I wanted avoid running a few amps of current to the dashboard.
