Multimeters have two ports for measuring current. One port is for low current, the other is for high current. The low current port is the same port used to measure voltage, resistance, etc. The high current port is only for current!
Earlier today, I was measuring high current current. Later, when I wanted to measure voltage, I forgot to swap the connections. I have never seen a blown fuse quite like this. Instead of measuring 112 Volts, I measured a few hundred amps at 112 Volts. I think I also lost about 4mm on each probe.
Today, I finished assembling all the components back onto the truck. Once I replaced the fuse, I verified that all the connections seem correct. Though, I felt I had pressed my luck enough. I will conduct the final test tomorrow.
I'm impressed that the Craftsman multimeter still works!
